Women's Basketball Outmatched by Methodist

RALEIGH, NC – The William Peace University women's basketball team was back at the Hermann Athletic Center Wednesday night, where the Pacers fell to the Methodist University Monarchs, 63-37.

WPU's 37 points was their lowest output of the year, thanks in large part to a 26.8% night from the field on 15-of-56 shooting. In addition, the Pacers (5-12, 0-9 USAS) ended up with 28 turnovers, which contributed to 22 points at the other end for Methodist. They have averaged 24 turnovers a game during their current seven-game skid. In their previous nine, the Pacers committed 19 per contest.

It was a sloppy first half for both teams. They coughed it up 27 times and shot a combined 14-of-66 (21.2%) from the field. But despite finishing the half with more turnovers (17) than points, the Pacers only faced a five-point, 19-14, deficit at the break.

Methodist (10-4, 5-1 USAS) pulled away though in the third, opening the quarter with a 19-3 run and outscoring WPU, 25-9. The Monarchs did most of their damage from the charity stripe, going 15-of-16 (93.7%) after reaching the bonus midway through the quarter. They went 21-of-27 (77.8%) for the game, while the Pacers only went 6-of-11 (54.5) at the line.

Susannah Sykes was the lone Pacer in double-figures with 12 points, two rebounds, one assist, a blocked shot and a steal. Alexis Armstrong scored six points to go with five rebounds and a steal. Tenae McKinzie had four points, three boards, three assists and a pair of steals. Lakeia Jones led the team with eight rebounds in 12 minutes off the bench.

Alexis Wallace led the way for Methodist, posting a double-double of 21 points and 15 rebound. She went a perfect 9-of-9 from the line.

The Pacers will look to get back on track Friday night, traveling for a 6:00 p.m. against Mid-Atlantic Christian University.
