LAGRANGE, GA – The William Peace University men's soccer team traveled to LaGrange College for their USA South conference opener on Saturday. The Pacers picked up a 4-1 win, the program's first under the direction of head coach
Caleb Husmann.
"I'm really proud of the guys and the way we played today… It definitely feels good to get that first win under our belts," said Husmann. "They applied everything that we've been working on in practice, came out with the right intensity and it was reflected in the score."
The Pacers (1-6, 1-0 USAS) struck first just less than 25 minutes in, as
Chris Deleon found
Kevin Amaya for the first of three goals in a five-minute span.
Seth Cranford connected with
Dylan Shields in the 28th minute, and
Enrique Ochoa made it 3-0 less than two minutes later with Deleon being credited for his second assist of the half.
Matthew Morton scored an unassisted goal for LaGrange (0-6, 1-6 USAS) making it a 3-1 game by the break, but the Pacers held them at bay the rest of the way scored again in the 71st minute. Deleon made it 4-1 with a goal of his own this time, while Micheal McKeel picked up the assist.
The WPU Men's soccer team will look to carry their momentum into Sunday, turning around on short rest for a 2:30 p.m. match at Huntingdon College (1-4-1, 0-1 USAS).
