GREENSBORO, NC – The William Peace University men's soccer team was back on the pitch Wednesday night, as they traveled to take on Guilford College. WPU took Guilford down, 2-1, last season, but it was the Pacers that came out on the wrong end of a 2-1 result this year.
"We gave up an early goal, but we did a good job of fighting back and gave ourselves a chance to win it at the end," said head coach
Caleb Husmann. "We had a ton of great looks and put them under a lot of pressure in the final 10 minutes, but we just weren't able to capitalize. All in all though, it was a definitely a step in the right direction."
Christian Torres struck first for Guilford (2-1) less than eight minutes in, when Corey McDonough played a through ball that led to a breakaway goal, but freshman
Ja'Rod Randolph tied the game 10 minutes later with his first career goal on a ball passed into the box from
Dylan Shields. Jake Elsey put the Quakers ahead for good moments later though, as he collected the rebound off Mark Dandanell's shot and put it away.
The WPU men's soccer team will be back in action this weekend for a pair of games at the Roanoke College Invitational. The Pacers will play Lynchburg at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. They will turn around the next day for a 6:30 game against Roanoke.
