CARY, NC – The William Peace Baseball Team scored three runs in the first and two more in the second, as the Pacers went on to beat Guilford College on Senior Day, 5-1.
"The guys did a good job of coming strong out of the gate and it was nice to get a win for our seniors in their final home game," said head coach Chris Duty. "Neal threw the ball well again, but hitting the baseball has keyed us to some success recently. I'm really proud of our team for the way they've competed the last few weeks."
After setting a season high for all of Division III striking out 17 last Friday against Piedmont, Christian Neal (3-6) turned in his second straight complete game, four-hitter this afternoon to go along with eight punch-outs.
Neal also went 2-for-4 at the dish and drove in a pair, scorching a double over the right fielders head to plate Tyler Klinedinst and Trey Hathaway in the second. Klinedinst finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored on the day, while Trevor Nanney also added two hits and a run batted in. Hathaway and Jacob Ennis chipped in with one hit apiece.
In the first, Klinedinst and Neal both singled to put runners at the corners. JT Howington reached on an error by the third baseman, as Klinedinst came home to make it 1-0. Ennis singled through the left side to load the bases, followed by an RBI single from Nanney that scored Neal from third. Howington made it 3-0 on Josh Clark's sac fly.
Nick Blackwood (1-1) was tacked with the loss, lasting only an inning plus after surrendering five runs on six hits. Four different Quakers recorded one hit apiece.
The Pacers travel to take on Guilford at their place for two games tomorrow starting at 1:00 p.m. Live Stats will be available for both contests.
