GREENSBORO, NC – Following a Senior Day win against the Quakers yesterday, the WPU Baseball Team dropped two games at Guilford this afternoon. The Pacers were edged in game one, 7-6, before falling 6-0 in game two.
Game One: Guilford 7, William Peace 6
WPU gave up two unearned runs in the bottom of the second, but the Pacers tied the game in the top half of the third, as Nick Cole, Trey Hathaway and Tyler Klinedinst all singled to load the bases with no outs. Hathaway came home on a wild pitch before Christian Neal brought Klinedinst home with a single up the middle.
Guilford plated two more in the bottom half of the third and fourth innings, but the Pacers made it a 6-5 game scoring a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth. Christian Neal doubled and scored in the fifth on Jacob Ennis' base hit. The Quakers helped WPU out in the sixth, as Cole reached on an error and eventually scored on Klinedinst's RBI groundout. Hathaway walked and scored on a Braxton Lamm single up the middle.
The Quakers pushed one more across in the sixth, which proved to be the winning run. WPU made it a 7-6 game in their final at bat, but the rally came to an end with two runners left on base.
Wes Dumford (0-7) was pinned with the loss, giving up four earned on nine hits, two walks and two punch-outs in five innings of work. Nick Cole led the Pacers at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a run scored. Neal went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Lamm also added two hits and a run batted in.
Justin Morrison (2-0) picked up the win, allowing three runs on nine hits, a walk and three strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched. Andrew Martin earned his second save of the year. AJ Girting, Austin Wilson and Jacob Roberts collected three hits apiece.
Game Two: Guilford 6, William Peace 0
WPU outhit Guilford, 10-7, but the Pacers left 11 runners on base. The Quakers scored five runs in the first and added one more in the second.
Coleman Greene (0-7) was tacked with the loss, giving up six runs on seven hits, three walks and three strikeouts. At the plate, Ennis turned in a 2-for-2 game, while Neal and Trey Hogan each went 2-for-3.
Lou Trosch started and got the win for Guilford, surrendering seven hits and walking one. Nick Blackwood went 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs and a run scored.
