CARY, NC – The William Peace Baseball Team dropped two games to LaGrange this afternoon. The Pacers lost game one, 7-1, and were no-hit in game two and lost, 2-0.
Game One: LaGrange 7, William Peace 1
WPU collected nine hits but only managed to push one run across the plate. It was a 2-0 game until LaGrange scored four in the fifth, as they went on to down the Pacers, 7-1.
Greg Chauvin went 2-for-3, drew a walk and scored the lone Pacers run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Josh Clark. Trey Hathaway and Braxton Lamm both went 2-for-4 with a stolen base, while Jacob Ennis, Christian Neal and Trevor Nanney each added one hit apiece.
Coleman Greene (0-4) got the start and the loss, giving up six runs (five earned) on 10 hits, a walk and two strikeouts. Mike Sgroi worked the final four innings, allowing one run on three hits and three strikeouts.
Zach Tatham (2-2) earned the win for LaGrange, giving up the one run on nine hits, one walk and four strikeouts in a complete game effort. At the plate, five different Panthers registered two hits and all but one starter reached base at least once.
Game Two: LaGrange 2, William Peace 0
LaGrange (8-13, 8-9 USAS) scored one in the first and another in the third, as Eric Morell (3-4) struck out seven and did not surrender a single hit.
Wes Dumford (0-4) was impressive on the mound but was pinned with the loss. Dumford gave up two runs on eight hits and five strikeouts in eight innings pitched before being replaced by Brandon Garner in the ninth.
WPU (1-17, 1-16 USAS) will be back at the USA Baseball National Training Complex for one more game against LaGrange tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
