FARMVILLE, VA – The William Peace University men's basketball team opened the Luck Stone Holiday Tournament against Albright College Saturday night. 10 ties and 12 lead changes later,
Chris Thomas hit a three-pointer to make it a 84-83 game with 36 seconds left, but the Pacers came up just short, 87-83.
Both teams shot better than 50% from the field for the game, but WPU (5-4) struggled at the free-throw line, going 6-of-20 (30%) compared to Albright's 17-of-26 (65.4%) outing at the stripe. The Pacers out-rebounded Albright, 40-34, and scored 17 second chance points thanks to 12 offensive rebounds. WPU coughed it up 16 times though, which led to 18 points for Albright at the other end.
Thomas led the Pacers (5-4) with a game high 21 points to go along with three rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Dakota King finished with 14 points, six rebounds and a blocked shot.
Tyquan Nolan scored 12 points and brought down six boards.
Terry Rogers did a bit of everything with 11 points, six rebounds, six assists and a steal.
Albright (3-5) had five different plays score at least 12 points, including 18 from Dejuan Smith. Evan Ward finished with 12 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals.
The Pacers will be back in action for tomorrow's consolation game against Immaculata University. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
