FARMVILLE, VA – The William Peace University men's basketball team squared off against Immaculata University in the Luck Stone Holiday Tournament consolation game Sunday afternoon.
WPU (5-5) took a five-point, 48-43, lead three minutes into the second half, but Immaculata (3-7) took control with a 17-2 run on their way to an 84-72 win.
After shooting better than 50% from the field against Albright last night, the Pacers went 25-of-78 (32.1%) from the field and only 5-of-40 (12.5%) from beyond the arc. The Mighty Macs went 29-of-57 (50.9%) from the field and 9-of-12 (75%) from beyond the arc, making it the first time all season a WPU opponent has made more three-pointers.
Freshman
Dakota King was named to the All-Tournament Team, posting his first career double-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds, two blocked shots and a steal.
Chris Thomas also registered a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Nate Strother finished with 12 points, six rebounds and a steal, while
Sam Johnson added 11 points, two rebounds, an assist and two steals.
Roy Ferrell was one of five Immaculata players in double-figures, leading the way with 19 points, 10 rebounds, a pair of assists and a steal. Rodney Duncan was named to the All-Tournament Team, scoring 12 points to go along with four rebounds and four assists. Mike Piekarski also notched a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The WPU men's basketball team will be off for nearly two weeks before hosting Washington and Lee University Saturday, January 2 at 3:00 p.m.
