RALEIGH, NC – The William Peace University men's basketball team was back at the Hermann Athletic Center Wednesday night, as the Pacers rolled past the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon, 77-64.
WPU (5-4) was clicking on all cylinders from the opening tip, draining 10 three-pointers in the first half (out of 17, 58.8%), while holding Randolph-Macon to a 25.8% clip from the field on 8-of-31 shooting. The Pacers were ahead by 20 at the break (46-26) and jumped in front by as many as 27 points with just less than four minutes to go before calling off the dogs.
"Overall, it was an impressive, balanced attack on both ends for us tonight," said Head Coach
Claude Shields. "We talk about how it should be five guys guarding as one, which was so key. To hold a team that's shooting 47% from the field and about the same from three to only 29% is really good"
10 different Pacers scored and three players finished in double-figures.
Terry Rogers led the way, finishing with a game high 16 points, three rebounds, three assists and a blocked shot.
Nate Strother scored 11 points to go along with a pair of rebounds, an assists and a steal.
Ryan Emfinger registered 10 points, five rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal.
Kori Anderson scored nine points and brought down eight rebounds in his season debut, while
Jalen Vince added six points, seven assists, three rebounds and a block.
Chris Thomas also chipped in with eight points, seven rebounds, two assists and a block.
Michael Taylor paced Randolph-Macon (2-6) with 16 points and seven rebounds. Grayson Midulla finished with 13 points, two rebounds and four steals.
The WPU men's basketball team will be back in action this weekend, traveling to Hampden-Sydney College for the Luck Stone Holiday Tournament. The Pacers kick the weekend off against Albright College Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
