Volleyball Swept by no. 4 Christopher Newport

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The William Peace University volleyball team traveled to face Christopher Newport Thursday night, where the Pacers fell to the no. 4 ranked Captains, 3-0.

WPU (16-18) didn't have an answer for the Captains early on, as they dropped games one and two by the scores of 25-16 and 15-12. The Pacers gave CNU (20-2) all they could handle in the third set, but they fell just short, 25-23.

"They showed us why they are considered to be one of the best teams in the country," said head coach Kevin Daniels. "We didn't seem comfortable in the first couple sets, but we started playing our game in the third. It wasn't going to get us a win tonight, but I think we can build on that momentum heading into the final stretch of the regular season."

Tempestt Frazier led the WPU attack with 12 kills at a .350 clip, to go along with a block solo and a block assist. Laura Bland and Nicole Phillips chipped in with five kills apiece. Liana Solomon posted team highs with 14 assists and 10 digs, in addition to four kills and a block assist. Kennedey Paine had 11 assists and three digs.

The WPU volleyball team will be back in action on Saturday traveling for a pair of non-conference matches against Eastern Mennonite and Washing and Lee.
