MARYVILLE, TN. – The William Peace women's soccer team opened conference play on the road against the Scots of Maryville College Friday night where they lost, 4-0.
"I thought we actually defended pretty well overall, but obviously we lacked in offense," said head coach Keith Jenkins. "We held our own only giving up two goals each half, but we stress taking responsibility for our own areas and we didn't to do that well enough tonight."
WPU (2-4-1, 0-1 USAS) only mustered up one shot during the game, and just like in their matches against Sweet Briar and Warren Wilson earlier this year, the Scots (3-4, 1-0 USAS) had one player, Sierra Siegel, who was too much to handle for the Pacers.
Siegel scored all four goals for the Scots. Her second goal was assisted by Lizzy Simmons while Kaitlyn Kennedy helped out on her final goal.
Shannon Maddex racked up 21 saves including a Maryville penalty kick. Devin Thompson put out another strong performance anchoring the Pacers back line.
With a game against Piedmont still to come tomorrow afternoon, the Pacers tried to sub as much as possible to save their legs, but the Scot's depth proved to be superior as they ran 22 different players out on to the field.
"Back to back matches are tough, but we need to play tomorrow with same effort," Jenkins added.
The Pacers take the field against the Lions tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. Follow along with LIVE STATS.
