WPU Women's Soccer Narrowly Edged by Piedmont, 1-0

by Kimothy Jones

DEMOREST, GA. – The William Peace women's soccer team played their second game in consecutive days this afternoon taking on the Lions of Piedmont College.  The Pacers put in a valiant effort defensively, but they lacked offense yet again resulting in a disappointing, 1-0 loss.

"Very proud of our effort today," said head coach Keith Jenkins." Our players put their heart and soul into this match. Playing on a short rest period with a small roster is tough. Our defense was fantastic."

WPU (2-5-1, 0-2 USA) continued their struggle to find quality opportunities on goal putting only one shot on target the entire game.

"We attacked a little better, but we are still lacking that offensive punch," Jenkins added. "Sometimes you just have to defend and look to counter attack."

Kalyn Dumanowsky scored the lone goal Piedmont, which was the only shot that got past William Peace goal keeper Shannon Maddox. Maddox gave a good effort with nine total saves for the Pacers and saved her second penalty kick in as many games.  Amber Arnold and Ashley Piers also put in standout performances for WPU's backline of defense.

"We want to rest for a couple of days and then go to work trying to generate some offense," Jenkins explained, as the team has a week to rest and prepare for another set of back-to-back games next weekend.

The Pacers will take on LaGrange next Saturday 4:30 p.m. at home.  They'll be at home the next day as well vs. Huntingdon at 3:00 p.m.
