CARY, N.C. - The William Peace men's lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season Sunday morning, falling to Thomas 13-10 at home to move to 6-1 overall.
Thomas jumped out to an early advantage, scoring three goals in the opening quarter and adding six more in the second to take a 9-3 lead into halftime. The Pacers responded with a strong third quarter, scoring four times to cut into the deficit, but were unable to complete the comeback.
Brandon Goad led the William Peace offense with four goals, while Dylan Sullivan added two. Caleb Garey finished with a goal and two assists, and William English recorded a goal and three assists. Aidan McNeely and Jacob Jackson each added a goal in the effort.
Defensively, Carson McGee made 17 saves in goal while Caden Tuthill led the Pacers with seven ground balls and four caused turnovers.
William Peace finished with 25 shots and 29 ground balls as the Pacers attempted to rally late in the second half but Thomas held on for the win.
"Hats off to Thomas, they are a classy group that executed when they had opportunities." Head Coach Troy Humphrey said after the game. "We're headed back to the office and trying to get better."
The Pacers return to action tomorrow night when they host Bethany at 7 p.m. at WakeMed Park.
