RALEIGH, N.C. - William Peace softball split a home doubleheader against Guilford on Tuesday, taking game one 8-6 before falling 3-0 in the second.
The Pacers opened the series scoring first in the opening inning as Allison Burlew delivered a two-RBI single and Marissa Fuller followed with an RBI double to make it 3-0.
The momentum continued in the second inning with a five-runs added to their 3 from the first. Sabrina Cox reached and later scored before Alli Bordwine drove in a run with a single. Reagan Stewart added an RBI single, Fuller brought in another run on an error, and Megan Hobbs capped the inning with an RBI single to extend the lead to 8-1.
Guilford responded with runs in the middle innings, including a three-run home run in the fourth, and added two more in the seventh to make it a two-run game, but the Pacers held on to secure the win.
Bordwine led the offense with three hits and two runs scored while Stewart added two hits and an RBI. Burlew and Fuller each drove in two runs as Peace finished with 12 hits in the game. Stewart earned the win in the circle, going the distance and allowing six runs while striking out three.
In the second game, the Pacers were held scoreless in a 3-0 loss despite a strong outing in the circle from Kimberly Bordeaux.
Guilford broke through in the fourth inning, taking advantage of defensive miscues to score two runs, and added another in the sixth to extend the lead.
Peace recorded five hits in the contest, with Cierra Lear and Isabelle Olson each tallying doubles, but were unable to push a run across. Bordeaux went the distance in the circle, allowing just three runs on three hits while striking out one.
William Peace returns to action on Friday, March 20 with a doubleheader at Johnson and Wales NC.
