DANVILLE, VA. – William Peace University women's volleyball opened play at the Averett University Cougar Classic on Friday with a split, sweeping Roanoke College in the opener before falling to Guilford College in the second.
In the first match of the day, the Pacers controlled play from the first serve, easing past Roanoke in three straight sets (25–19, 25–5, 25–17). Freshman outside hitter Aaliyah Anderson powered the offense with 13 kills on a .409 hitting percentage, while Aubrey Chesson added eight kills. Senior setter Maegan Brylski aided the attack with 27 assists, also contributing four service aces and 15 digs. Gracie Payne anchored the defense with 22 digs.
The evening match featured a tougher test against Guilford, where Peace battled but fell in three sets (17–25, 20–25, 19–25). Caitlin Bailey led the Pacers with eight kills and a .250 hitting percentage, while Brylski added six kills, 22 assists, and 13 digs for another strong all-around effort. Payne again led the defense with 15 digs.
Brylski also reached a major career milestone on the day, surpassing 2,000 career assists. She now sits at 2,036 assists for her career.
With the split, the Pacers move to 1–1 on the season. They will continue tournament play tomorrow afternoon, taking on Bob Jones University at 2 PM before facing host Averett University at 4 PM.
