Softball Splits in Day Two of Triangle Classic

RALEIGH, N.C. - Game One: The William Peace Pacers continued their strong season with a six inning 10-2 victory over New York University on Sunday morning. A balanced offensive attack and solid pitching led the Pacers to their seventh win of the season.

The Pacers wasted no time getting on the board, scoring two runs in the first inning thanks to a pair of extra-base hits. Cierra Lear opened the game with a double before Megan McAnany followed up with an RBI double to give the Pacers an early lead. A groundout by Martha Parlier later in the inning brought home McAnany, making it 2-0.

NYU responded in the third with a solo home run and a sacrifice fly cutting the lead to 3-2. However, the Pacers quickly took control once again, capitalizing on multiple defensive miscues from NYU to extend their lead.

William Peace continued to add runs in nearly every inning, with McAnany, Adanya Day, and Taryn Shelton leading the offense. McAnany drove in two runs, while Day added a key two-run double in the fifth to widen the gap. The Pacers' lineup was efficient, scoring their 10 runs on just eight hits while drawing four walks and forcing multiple errors from the NYU defense.

On the mound, Reagan Stewart (4-2) earned the win, pitching three innings and allowing just one earned run on five hits. Kimberly Bordeaux took over in relief and was lights-out, throwing 3.1 scoreless innings while striking out three.

Game Two:

The Pacers saw their three-game winning streak snapped in a 4-2 loss to nationally ranked #23 Randolph-Macon on Sunday afternoon. Despite an early lead and a strong showing from their pitching staff, the Pacers (8-3) were unable to overcome timely hits and solid pitching from the Yellow Jackets (6-2).

William Peace struck first in the opening inning when Megan McAnany launched a solo home run to left field, giving the Pacers a quick 1-0 advantage. They added another run in the second when Caroline Burdsal singled and later came around to score on an RBI single from Cierra Lear, extending the lead to 2-0.

However, Randolph-Macon responded in the third inning bringing home two runs on a double to tie the game at 2-2. The Yellow Jackets then grabbed the lead in the fourth on a solo home run, making it 3-2.

The Pacers had their chances but struggled to generate offense. The Yellow Jackets tacked on an insurance run in the fifth, capitalizing on a passed ball to push the score to 4-2.

On the mound, Kimberly Bordeaux (5-2) took the loss for William Peace, allowing two runs over three innings. Reagan Stewart and Haley Joyce combined for three innings of relief, keeping the game within reach, but the Pacers' bats couldn't find a spark late in the game.

The Pacers are back in action at the Myrtle Beach Fastpitch Classic on March 11th, 12th and 13th.
