Men's Soccer Dominates Mary Baldwin in Conference Home Opener

CARY, N.C. - The Pacers were back at WakeMed soccer park for their USA South conference home opener. Peace was looking to get back into the win column after opening conference play with a draw.

Peace came out eager to exploit a Mary Baldwin defense that ranks last in the USA South in goals allowed.

The Pacers applied pressure early as Freshman Ibra Ndiaye put Peace on the board in just the second minute of the game.

The Pacers got right back to it 4 minutes later, winning a free kick right outside of the 18 yard box. Gabe Faria got to the ball first, putting it off the bar. Defender Zach Marlier found the rebound and got it past the MBU keeper for the second Pacer goal.

Over the next 15 minutes, shots came in abundance for the Pacers, but all chances missed the frame.

Peace would get their 3rd of the contest in the 27th minute, as Gabe Faria finished a ball from Rafa Quevedo-Antunez and the rout was truly on.

Mary Baldwin never really experienced any offensive chances in the first half. Any movement near the offensive side was quickly turned over or whistled offsides.

Ibra Ndiaye finished his second of the match in the 30th minute, making it 4-0. After the Pacer fourth, coach Huber inserted a mass substitution.

One of those subs cashed in instantly when Topher Johnson scored to make it 5-0.

Even with new personnel, the Pacer offense continued to roll. Edgar Carbajal Perez added a 6th in the 40th minute, assisted by Ehmuler Hser.

The first half stats were gaudy, as Peace led in shots (22-0), shots on goal (9-0), and corner kicks (6-0).

Not taking any risks for injuries, coach Huber only put 3 Pacer starters on the field for the second half. Even still, the Pacer offense continued the pressure that had been there in the first half.

Peace recorded 2 more shots in the first 8 minutes of play, one of them requiring a save from MBU goalkeeper, Preston Bentley.

O'Shari Shealy got into the scorer's column in the 62nd minute, adding the "PAT" from the first half touchdown of goals for the Pacers.

In the 64th, Peace freshman Griffin Thomas, who had stepped into goal for Ayden Miller, kept the one major MBU chance out of the net.

The final 20 minutes and change of the Sunday afternoon's smackdown elapsed with no more major events.

A dominant stat sheet, a clean stat sheet, and USA South conference win number were all a part of a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Cary.

The Pacers will hit the road on Wednesday for a USA South match up with Pfeiffer.
