Men's Soccer Shuts Out Piedmont For Second Win in Two Days

DEMOREST, Ga. – William Peace blanked Piedmont 3-0 on Sunday for its second men's soccer road win in two days in Georgia.

The shutout victory, in addition to Saturday's 2-1 win over LaGrange, evened the Pacers' record at 3-3-2 overall and gives them momentum heading into the USA South Conference schedule.

The Pacers, picked second in the USA South, host N.C. Wesleyan in their league opener Oct. 2 at WakeMed Soccer Park at 7 p.m.

"Our guys had a really focused approach on a tough back-to-back weekend," Pacers' Head Coach Ryan Huber said. "We were able to come out and dictate the game early which led to two great goals in the first half and seal the victory against a good Piedmont team."

Piedmont (4-3-2 overall) was shut out only once this season before Sunday's game. The defense, spearheaded by goalkeeper Rafa Quevodo-Antunez, allowed no goals in eight attempts.

The Pacers have held four opponents scoreless in eight games this season. They allowed no goals in five contests in 2023.

On the opposite end, the Pacers took 22 shots. They scored in the first 3:50 on Gavin Beaupre's second goal of the season for a 1-0 lead. Topher Johnson scored the second goal of the half on a Jorge Lemus' assist, his second this weekend.

After taking a 2-0 lead into halftime, the Pacers tacked on another goal for the final score. Ausar Omwenga finished off the Lions with a score early in the second half.

William Peace has not lost to Piedmont in their last five games since 2018. The Pacers are 3-0-2 in the season series during that stretch.
