Men's Soccer Shuts Out Guilford On The Road

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Playing its second road game in three days, William Peace regrouped from an opening season loss to trounce Guilford 3-0 in men's soccer on Sunday.

This is the third time in the last five games of the series that WPU has held the Quakers scoreless.

"This was a really good bounce back game for our team after an unfortunate result Friday night," WPU Head Coach Ryan Huber said. "Really proud of the guys' performance in the shutout against a good Guilford team."

Two nights ago, a 1-0 Pacers' lead evaporated in the second half when Averett scored two goals for the 2-1 win. Against Guilford, WPU took a 2-0 lead at the break but this time the Pacers padded the lead in the second half.

The Pacers set the tone early as Zach Marlier scored with a little over two minutes into the matchup. Sixteen minutes had elapsed when Gavin Beaupre padded the lead with an assist from Ethan Gillette. Jorge Lemus, who became the school career leader in goals on Friday, added a late goal for the final score. It is his second goal in two contests and the 39th of his collegiate career.

The WPU defense made sure there would be no comeback. Sparked by Joey Hurley, Andrew Mesnard, Beaupre, Marlier and goalkeeper Rafa Quevodo-Antunez, the Pacers held Guilford to eight shots, including two in the second half. The Pacers finished with 19 shots and six corner kicks.

William Peace extended its win streak to two against Guilford (0-1-0), which hasn't defeated the Pacers in their last four games. Both teams played to a tie in 2019 and 2022, and the Pacers won 2-1 at home in 2023.

The Pacers make their regular season home debut on Wednesday, Sept. 4, against Bridgewater at WakeMed Soccer Park. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
