Pacers Fall To NC Wesleyan In Softball Doubleheader

RALEIGH, N.C. – William Peace led twice in both games before falling 5-4 in Game 1 and 8-6 in Game 2 of a USA South doubleheader against N.C. Wesleyan at the WPU Softball Complex on Tuesday.

In the first game, Adanya Day hit an RBI single in the first inning and Cierra Lear added an RBI single in the second inning for a 2-0 lead. N.C. Wesleyan scored a run in the third inning and added four runs in the fourth inning for a 5-2 lead.

Day hit a two-run single in the fourth inning to pull the Pacers within 5-4. Neither team scored in the remaining three innings.

The Pacers had runners on second and third with two outs in the sixth inning but a groundout ended the inning. They had runners on first and second with two outs in the seventh but the game ended on a groundout.

Day led the Pacers with three RBIs. Angelina Jones and Lydia Hunt each scored two runs.

In the second game, the Pacers trailed early but scored four runs, keyed by Lear's two-run single, for a 4-2 lead. N.C. Wesleyan scored two runs in the fourth inning to tie the game and added four runs in the fifth inning for an 8-4 lead.

The Pacers climbed back within 8-6 on Day's solo homer in the fifth inning and Jones' RBI single in the sixth inning. Kierston Cox led off with a single in the seventh inning but the Pacers flied out, lined out and struck out in the next three at-bats to end the game.

Jones and Lear both knocked in two runs for the Pacers. Logan Ayers scored twice and recorded two stolen bases.

The Pacers will host Shaw in a non-conference doubleheader at the WPU Softball Complex on Thursday, April 18, starting at 3 p.m.
