Pacers Battle For Three Quarters Before Falling To Southern Virginia

CARY, N.C. – William Peace held a third-quarter lead over Southern Virginia before falling 21-10 in a USA South men's lacrosse game at WakeMed Soccer Park on Monday.

The Pacers trailed 6-2 in the first quarter but Zachary Fields scored the last of five unanswered goals to put the hosts ahead 7-6 early in the second half. The Knights scored four goals in the third quarter to regain the lead at 10-7, but William English scored a goal to get the Pacers within 10-8 early in the fourth quarter.

After English's goal, the Pacers were outscored 11-2 the rest of the game.

English finished with two goals and one assist for the Pacers. Jamar Bell scored two goals and goalie Dylan Sullivan tallied one goal and two assists in addition to 16 saves.

Sullivan's goal was the highlight of the contest. After receiving a pass from a teammate near his own net, Sullivan ran past midfield and shot the ball past the Knights' goalie in the net. His goal drew the loudest cheers of the game from the home fans.

Brandon Goad posted a goal and an assist for the Pacers. Noah Belote, Dante Baranello and Fields each scored a goal and Zack McConnell forced five SVU turnovers.

The Pacers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening minutes of the first quarter but the Knights scored six consecutive goals to go ahead 6-2. The Pacers rallied to tie the game 6-6 at halftime.

After three straight home games, the Pacers will hit the road to face Brevard in Brevard, N.C., on Saturday, April 6. Game time is 2 p.m.
