Bell Scores Six Goals in Men's Lacrosse Win Over Brevard

BREVARD, N.C. – William Peace picked up its first men's lacrosse conference win of the season on Saturday.

Jamar Bell scored a season-high six goals to lift the Pacers over USA South Conference foe Brevard 9-7 at Ives-Lemel Family Field. Brandon Goad added two goals and Zachary Fields scored one goal.

William English had two assists for the Pacers. Dylan Sullivan was the winning goalkeeper with 14 saves.

"I'm proud of this team's grit, we fought hard to earn this one," Pacers Head Coach Mark Crisco said. "It wasn't perfect but we proved how a group of quality young men can dare and endure."

The six goals give Bell a team-leading 24 goals and 33 points in nine games. The freshman attackman ranks 10th in goals per game and tied for eighth in points per game in the USA South.

Bell scored five goals during a 7-1 rally that turned a 4-2 second-quarter deficit into a 9-5 lead in the fourth quarter. His last two goals, including one in the fourth quarter, were enough to overcome two late Brevard goals.

Goad scored in the first quarter to tie the game at 1-1. The Tornados scored back-to-back goals in the first quarter for a 3-1 lead, but Bell scored his first goal in the second quarter to trim the margin to one. Brevard scored for a 4-2 lead before the Pacers began their run.

Fields scored followed by three straight goals from Bell to put the Pacers ahead 6-4 at halftime. Brevard opened the third quarter with a goal, but Goad scored and Bell added two straight goals for the 9-5 lead.

The Pacers were successful on 23 of 29 clears and scooped up more ground balls (45-41), including 10 by Goad. The visitors won the faceoff battle 10-9.

William Peace is back on the field Sunday, April 7, at Warren Wilson in Swannanoa, N.C. The game begins at 1 p.m.
