Seven Pacers Earn USA South Men's Conference Rankings At UNCW Meet

Sharif Blount Finished Fifth in the 800 and Seventh in the 1500

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Seven William Peace athletes earned USA South Conference rankings after this past weekend's performances at the UNCW Seahawk Invitational.

"This was a good way to see exactly where we're at as we switch from indoor to outdoor," Head Coach Campbell Scollo said. "Overall, this was a pretty solid meet, and I am very excited with how our mid-distance crew preformed!"

Sharif Blount led the Pacers in their outdoor season opener at the Harold Green Track and Field Complex. He placed fifth in the 800 run in a school-record time of 1:57.91 and finished seventh in the 1500 run in a personal-best time of 4:23.62, breaking the old record by seven seconds. His 1500-meter time is the third fastest in men's track program history.

Blount's times rank first in the 800 and second in the 1500 in the USA South. Nationally, he ranks 11^th among Division III runners.

Three 400-meter runners earned high rankings in the conference. Amir Hutchinson ranks fourth (58.60), Donollyn Tyrell ranks fifth (59.14) and Solomon Womble ranks eighth (1:05.98). Hutchinson also ranks 10^th in the 200 (25.96) and sixth in the long jump (4.77m) while Womble ranks eighth in the 100 (12.21) and 12^th in the 200 (28.22).

Sean Stewart ranks fifth in the discus (28.75m) and 10^th in the shot put (8.08m). The discus mark was a personal best for Stewart, who is third all-time in the shot put and second in the discus. Daniel Steele ranks sixth in the 1500 meters (5:02.25) and Lemuel Scott ranks seventh in the long jump (3.89m).

The Pacers men compete again this weekend (March 8-9) in the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
