Pacers Beat Clarks Summit, Stevenson at Myrtle Beach Softball Classic

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – William Peace collected two softball victories at the Fast Pitch Dreams Spring Classic this week.

The Pacers started and ended the Classic with impressive wins over Clarks Summit and Stevenson. They defeated Clarks Summit 8-0 in their first game Tuesday which ended in five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule. Their final game on Wednesday was a 9-3 triumph over Stevenson.

William Peace played two other games in the Classic, falling to Minnesota Morris 5-4 in a nailbiter and Division II Fairmont State 10-2.

In the Clarks Summit win, Erin Miles fired a shutout with seven strikeouts to get the pitching victory. Reagan Stewart was 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs, including a one-run double to put the Pacers on the board in the first inning. She added a two-run single in the second inning to give the Pacers a 3-0 lead.

Taryn Shelton added a one-run double and Lydia Hunt connected on an RBI triple in the third to spark a 6-0 lead. Cierra Lear had an RBI groundout in the same inning.

Kimberly Bordeaux smacked an RBI single in the fourth inning and Angelina Jones scored on an error in the fifth to finish the scoring. The Pacers outhit Clarks Summit 8-2.

In the win over Stevenson, Jones led the Pacers with three RBIs and two runs scored on 2-for-4 hitting with a triple. Shelton finished 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs.

Marissa Fuller, Miles, Bordeaux and Kierston Cox all batted 2-for-4 as the Pacers totaled a season-high 15 hits. Miles and Cox each drove in a run and Fuller, Miles and Bordeaux each scored a run. Lear scored twice and Megan Hobbs scored once.

Both Miles and Cox hit RBI singles and Hobbs scored on an error for a 3-0 first-inning lead. Shelton added an RBI single in the second inning.

Stevenson pulled within 4-2 in the bottom half of the second but Shelton hit an RBI triple in the fourth. The key hit of the game came from Jones, who belted a three-run triple in the fifth to stretch the lead to 8-2. Jones scored the final run in the seventh on a wild pitch.

Bordeaux scattered six hits in four innings for the pitching win.

Against Minnesota Morris on Tuesday, the Pacers nearly rallied from a 5-1 fourth-inning deficit. They closed within 5-4 by the seventh inning and had runners on second and third base with two outs but a strikeout ended the game.

Adanya Day and Fuller were both 2-for-4 from the plate with one RBI each. Preston Hawkins tripled and Jones had a double.

Against Fairmont State on Wednesday, the Pacers scored both runs in the fourth inning. Jones scored on a passed ball and Logan Ayers scored on an error.

The Pacers take a one-day break before hosting Averett in a doubleheader Friday (March 15) at the WPU Softball Field. Game times are 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
