Men's Basketball Falls To Springfield 55-52

SALEM, Va. – William Peace played gritty in its men's basketball loss to Springfield on Saturday.

The Pacers were in striking distance despite slow starts in both halves of the consolation game in the Frankie Allen Tip-Off Tournament.  A scoreless stretch in the final 2:33 led to a 55-52 defeat at the Cregger Center.

"Slow out of the gate again today - but proud of our competitiveness and fight," Pacers' Head Coach Claude Shields said. "We need to be able to execute a bit better down the stretch - but losses like this will help us come conference season!"

Ryan Lominack and Parker Hodgson each scored 12 points for the Pacers (0-2 overall). Lominack averaged 10 points in two games to make the All-Tournament Team.

Michael Dulin finished with nine points and Elijah Green chipped in seven points. Lominack and Dulin in addition to Ababacar Thiam and Shawn Jones each snatched six rebounds. Sully Caroso contributed three steals and four rebounds.

The Pacers were down 7-0 at the beginning of the game. They came back to lead 24-22 on a three-point play by Dylan McBride. William Peace went into halftime behind 25-24.

Springfield led 32-26 in the second half after another sluggish start by the Pacers. But William Peace rallied back to take a 42-38 lead midway in the half. Both teams exchanged leads until Springfield went ahead for good at 50-48 with four minutes left.

The Pride (1-3 overall) hit two free throws for the eventual final score with under two minutes remaining. The Pacers missed three treys that would have tied the game.

William Peace makes its home debut on Wednesday, Nov. 20, against Averett. Tipoff is 7 p.m. at the Hermann Athletic Center.
