Volleyball Falls In USA South Semifinals

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – William Peace's volleyball season ended in the USA South Tournament semifinals on Thursday.

The No. 6 Pacers fell 3-0 (18-25, 19-25, 14-25) to No. 2 seed Salem at the Salem Athletics Complex. William Peace finished the season 18-16 overall, the second winning record under third-year Head Coach Hannah Marshall.

"I am so proud of our growth this season, and I believe we surpassed personal and external expectations," Marshall said. "We were grateful to have the opportunity to compete in the conference semifinals after a hard fought quarterfinals, and wish the best of luck to the teams still competing."

William Peace jelled near the end of the season. The Pacers won five of their last six matches, including three in a row, heading into the semifinals. One of the wins was against Salem at home in four sets on Nov. 2 to start the run.

The outcome was different on Thursday. The Pacers played from behind each set. The deficits were too big to come back from.

The Pacers fell behind 12-3 in the first set. The deficit was 21-10 before the Pacers rallied. They closed within 23-18 but the Spirits (30-5 overall) scored twice for the first set win 25-18.

The second and third sets were like the first set. In the second set, William Peace trailed 17-11 but rallied within 17-14. The Spirits pushed the lead to 22-14 before winning the set 25-19.

The Spirits started the third set leading 6-0. The closest the Pacers would get was 12-8 in the third-set loss.

Chassie Jacops was impressive for the Pacers in defeat. She totaled 12 kills and Maegan Brylski added 21 assists, 11 digs and two block assists. Jacqueline Janecek and Savannah Hairr finished with eight digs and seven digs, respectively.
