VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – William Peace women's volleyball split a pair of matches Friday in Virginia Beach, falling 0-3 to Batten University before defeating SUNY New Paltz 3-1.
The Pacers opened the day with a 0-3 (12-25, 17-25, 14-25) loss to Batten. Aubrey Chesson led Peace with nine kills, while Aaliyah Anderson added five. Emily Thompson finished with nine assists and six digs, and Jax Janecek had a team-high eight digs.
Peace turned things around against SUNY New Paltz, taking the first two sets 25-22 and 25-21. After the Hawks won the third 25-19, the Pacers closed out the match with a 25-17 fourth-set win. The victory marked the first of head coach Logan Bryant's career.
Chesson finished with 17 kills and six digs in the win, with Anderson adding nine kills. Thompson recorded 41 assists and 14 digs, while Savannah Hairr had 15 digs and four aces. The Pacers totaled 50 kills and 10 aces in the match.
The Pacers finish up the Marlin Invitational tomorrow morning with a pair of matches against St. Joseph's (ME) and Rowan University at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.
