Volleyball Topples N.C. Wesleyan On The Road In Four Sets

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – William Peace is looking to start at another win streak after topping N.C. Wesleyan 3-1(25-19, 25-22, 22-25, 25-21) in USA South volleyball at Everett Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

The Pacers had won six straight matches before last week's five-set loss to Meredith at home. They bounced back against the Battling Bishops to improve to 4-1 in the conference and 11-5 overall. N.C. Wesleyan dropped to 1-5 and 2-11.

"Playing on the road after a week without a match is tough, but we showed a lot of resilience and were able to put together a solid four-set win over a tough N.C. Wesleyan team!," Head Coach Hannah Marshall said. "It was a team effort and we look forward to playing this weekend."

William Peace will play two matches in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Saturday, Oct. 5. The Pacers will face Salem in a USA South match at 12 p.m. followed by a non-conference matchup against Carolina U at 2 p.m.

On Wednesday, the duo of Jordan Juanes and Maegan Brylski paced William Peace, sitting in a three-way tie for first in the USA South. Juanes tallied 18 kills and 17 digs and Brylski contributed 31 assists and 12 digs.

Chassie Jacops finished with eight kills and Jordyn Chinigo had seven kills. Both players recorded four blocks apiece. Vivian Camplin totaled 18 digs and Katie Arens finished with 12 digs.

All four sets were close but the Pacers pulled out wins in three of them. The Pacers jumped out to an early lead to break an 8-8 tie in the first set. The Battling Bishops rallied within 19-18 but William Peace went on another run, this time 6-1, to get the first-set win 25-19.

The Pacers fell behind 17-14 in the second set but recovered to take a 2-0 lead. William Peace moved ahead 20-18 but N.C. Wesleyan tied the score 20-20. A 4-0 run keyed a 24-20 lead and the Pacers gained the second-set win after leading 24-22.

William Peace attempted to put N.C. Wesleyan away in the third set. The Pacers lead 17-14 but N.C. Wesleyan tied the score 17-17. The visitors went up 18-17 but N.C. Wesleyan scored seven consecutive points for a 24-18 lead. The Pacers scored four straight points to scare the Battling Bishops before falling 25-22.

The Pacers opened an 18-13 lead in the fourth set but N.C. Wesleyan came back to tie the score. A 7-3 run keyed the Pacers' 25-21 fourth-set win to secure the match victory.
