Volleyball Topples Pfeiffer In Three Sets

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – William Peace got a much-needed volleyball win on Wednesday as the Pacers breezed past Pfeiffer in three sets (25-10, 25-22, 30-28) at Merner Gymnasium.

The victory stopped a five-match losing skid and kept the Pacers in the thick of the USA South Conference standings. The Pacers (5-4 USA South, 12-10 overall) are one of six teams in the 10-team USA South with a winning conference record. William Peace is sixth in the standings but only two games separate third-place Greensboro from the Pacers.

The Pacers topped Pfeiffer for the second time this season on Wednesday with a team effort. Jordan Juanes recorded 19 kills and Sarah Yates added 12 kills. AJ Townsend finished with 38 assists, nine digs and two aces and Jordyn Chinigo posted five blocks to go with seven kills. Jacqueline Janecek and Savannah Hairr totaled 10 digs each.

The Pacers amassed more kills (51-32) and had a higher attack percentage (.370-.125).

William Peace cruised to a first-set victory, then outlasted Pfeiffer (1-9 USA South, 4-15 overall) in the final two sets. Trailing 20-19 in the second set, the Pacers outscored the Falcons 4-1 for a 23-21 lead. The Falcons scored the next point but a Pfeiffer attack error and a Juanes' kill gave the Pacers the second-set win.

In the third set, the Falcons jumped out to a 10-2 lead but Pacers chipped away at the margin. Still, the Pacers were one point away from losing the set at 24-21 but rallied to take a 27-26 lead.

The Falcons regained the lead at 28-27 but the Pacers scored three straight points, including the set-winning kill from Georgia Grace Anderson, to take the match.

William Peace hits the road again on Saturday for a USA South tri-match in Staunton, Va. The Pacers face Mary Baldwin at 11 a.m. and Greensboro at 1 p.m.
