Volleyball Falls To Southern Virginia, Averett In Home Tri-Match

RALEIGH, N.C. – William Peace gave a spirited effort in four-set losses to Southern Virginia and Averett during a volleyball tri-match inside the Hermann Athletic Center on Saturday.

The final scores were 18-25, 25-18, 24-26, 15-25 to Southern Virginia and 25-15, 18-25, 13-25, 22-25 to Averett. The Pacers, hampered by injuries, dropped to 4-4 in the USA South and 11-10 overall.

Georgia Grace Anderson posted 10 kills and two blocks against Southern Virginia for the Pacers, who won the second set to pull within a 1-1 tie. The Pacers led 24-23 in the pivotal third set but the Knights, who lead the USA South at 8-1, scored the last three points for the win.

The third-set loss took the steam out of the Pacers, who fell by 10 in the fourth set.

Sarah Yates and Jordan Juanes finished with eight and seven kills, respectively, against Southern Virginia (12-9 overall). AJ Townsend amassed 31 assists and Savannah Hairr tallied four aces.

Defensively, Juanes had 19 digs, followed by Vivian Camplin with 17 and Jacqueline Janecek with 14. Chassie Jacops tied Anderson with two blocks.

William Peace and Averett (10-12 overall) tangled in the third match with the Pacers taking an impressive first-set win by 10 points. The last three sets were all Averett but William Peace made it interesting in the fourth set.

Trailing 24-17, the Pacers scored five straight points to get within two before the Cougars ended the match with a kill.

Anderson paced William Peace with 10 kills and Juanes and Jacops each added eight kills. Townsend had 29 assists, three aces and nine digs.

On defense, Juanes had 18 digs and Janecek added 17 digs. Jacops contributed three blocks.

The Pacers are on the road against Pfeiffer in a USA South battle in Misenheimer, N.C., on Wednesday, Oct. 16. The match begins at 6 p.m.
