Pacers Pull Away In Second Half To Topple Southern Virginia

BUENA VISTA, Va. - William Peace went on a second-half run to pull away from Southern Virginia 72-64 in a USA South Conference men's basketball contest at Knight Arena on Friday night.

The victory sets up a showdown Saturday against Mary Baldwin for the USA South lead. The Pacers (2-1 USA South, 7-7 overall) are one game behind Mary Baldwin (3-0 USA South, 7-7 overall) in the league standings.

Saturday's game against Mary Baldwin is the second away game in two days for the Pacers. Game time is 4:30 p.m. in Staunton, Va.

"I am proud of our effort tonight for our first conference road win!," WPU Head Coach Claude Shields said. "We were able to attack the paint in the second half and executed well down the stretch. I am excited to go for another one tomorrow afternoon!"

The Pacers relied on balanced scoring to take care of Southern Virginia in the second half. They shot 57.1 percent from the floor, including 44.4 percent behind the three-point line in the final 20 minutes.

With the score knotted at 46-46, the Pacers scored 10 straight points to wrestle control from the Knights. The Pacers never looked back as they outscored the hosts 26-18 after the game was tied.
