Coach Dobbins Reaches 500 Wins As Softball Splits With Methodist

FAYETTEVILLE, NC -- William Peace University softball split with Methodist, falling in game one 3-2 and winning game two 10-8 in 11 innings. The win marked Head Coach Charlie Dobbins' 500th career victory.

KEY POINTS
Game One
  • Katherine Murphy would be strong for the Pacers in the circle, notching 9 strikeouts throughout the game as neither team would get on the board in the first 3 innings.
  • Logan Ayers would single up the middle to score Adanya Day at the top of the 4th for a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the innings, Methodist would tie it 1-1 on a bunt. 
  • A double from Anna Suggs in the 6th would score Logan Ayers for a 2-1 lead. Methodist would tie it 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh with a sacrifice bunt, before another sacrifice bunt would bring in the winning run and allow the Monarchs to take the 3-2 win over the Pacers.
Game Two
  • A single up the middle from Adanya Day would put the Pacers up 2-0 at the top of the 3rd. Methodist would cut the lead to 2-2 with a double and a single before a single would give them a 3-2 lead.
  • A double from Anna Suggs in the 5th would tie it up 3-3, while singles from Day and Megan McAnany in the 6th would put WPU up 5-3. Methodist would add two singles in the 6th to tie it back up 5-5, and the game would be forced into extra innings.
  • In the 8th, a single from Rachel Mori and a walk for Taryn Shelton would give the Pacers a 7-5 lead, but Methodist would have a few strong hits to tie it 7-7 in the bottom. Adanya Day would bring in Preston Hawkins in the 9th for an 8-7 game, but Methodist would again tie it 8-8.
  • Finally, in the 11th inning, Lydia Hunt would drive in Taryn Shelton, with a single from Logan Ayers helping to score HUnt for a 10-8 win for the Pacers.
PACER TOP PERFORMERS FOR THE FOES
  • Alyssa Rivas and Sydney Sizemore each went 2 for 3 in game one.
NEXT GAME
The Pacers will head to crosstown rival Meredith College on April 2nd beginning at 12PM.
