Murphy Records No-Hitter As Softball Splits With SVU

RALEIGH, NC -- William Peace University softball split with Southern Virginia University, picking up an 8-0 shutout before falling 12-10 in game two. Katherine Murphy tallied a no-hitter in the first game in 6 innings.

KEY POINTS
Game One
  • Adanya Day would get the Pacers going in the bottom of the first with a homerun over right center, scoring Preston Hawkins for a 2-0 lead. Lydia Hunt would drive in Megan McAnany in the bottom of the 2nd for a 3-0 lead, while a single from day would put the score at 4-0.
  • In the bottom of the 4th, Claire Yancey would bring in Lydia Hunt for a 5-0 lead, while Preston Hawkins would score on a wild pitch for a 6-0 advantage. A single from McAnany in the bottom of the 5th would score Angelina Jones for a 7-0 lead. Lydia Hunt would hit a walkoff homerun in the bottom of the 6th to end the game at 8-0.
Game Two
  • Day would hit her second homerun of the series in the bottom of the 1st for a 1-0 lead. The Knights would have a few big hits at the top of the 2nd for a 4-1 lead before adding another run at the top of the 3rd for a 5-1 score. A single from Anna Suggs would bring in two to cut the score to 5-3.
  • The Knights would have huge 4th and 5th innings with several singles and doubles to take a 12-3 lead. A sacrifice fly from Megan McAnany and a double from Taryn Shelton would start the Pacers' rally for a 12-6 score. Shelton would score on an error before a single from Angelina Jones would put the score at 12-8. Kayleigh Griffith-Teemer and Hawkins would each add singles in the bottom of the 6th, but the Pacers would be unable to complete the rally and would fall 12-10.

  • A. Webster went 3 for 5 in game two with 2 RBIs.
