Softball Sweeps Sweet Briar

SWEET BRIAR, VA -- William Peace University softball swept Sweet Briar College with a 9-2 win in game one and an 8-3 win in game two.

KEY POINTS
Game One
  • Sweet Briar would take an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first before a big third inning from the Pacers with a sacrifice fly from Megan McAnany and a single from Logan Ayers would put them up 3-1.
  • In the 4th, Hannah Lynch would score on a passed ball while Lydia Hunt would steal home for a 5-1 lead.
  • A single from Ayers in the 5th would give the Pacers a 6-1 lead, while a single from Anna Suggs would bring in Angelina Jones and Preston Hawkins for an 8-1 advantage. 
  • A single from Adanya Day would give the Pacers a 9-1 lead. Sweet Briar would add a single run in the bottom of the 7th, but the Pacers would shut them down to win 9-2.
Game Two
  • Preston Hawkins would double at the top of the 2nd for a 2-0 Pacer lead. A 3-RBI homerun from Adanya Day would score Taryn Shelton and Hawkins for a big 5-0 lead, while a double from Logan Ayers would bring home Rachel Mori for a 6-0 lead.
  • Sweet Briar would get the bats going in the third and fourth innings to cut down the Pacer lead to 6-3.
  • A sacrifice fly from Hawkins in the 6th would bring in Anna Suggs for a 7-3 lead, while a single from Shelton would score Erin Miles to help secure the 8-3 win.
