Men's Basketball Closes Regular Season With 80-67 Win Over Brevard As They Look Towards USA South Conference Semifinal

RALEIGH, NC -- William Peace University men's basketball closed out their record-breaking season with an 80-67 win, bringing them up to a new program record of 17 wins. The Pacers will finish as the #2 seed in the USA South and will have a bye in the first round before hosting a tournament semifinal game next Thursday.

KEY POINTS
  • Brevard would take an early 7-3 lead before layups from Michael Dulin and Shawn Jones would tie it 7-7. Layups from Beau Bryant and Timothy Pettiford, as well as a shot from behind the arc from Bryant, would put the Pacers up 16-9.
  • Brevard would close the gap to 18-17, but Bryant, Pettiford, and Parton would combine for a 26-17 lead. Layups from Bryant, free throws from Dulin, and a late jumper from Pettiford would send the Pacers into halftime with a 39-28 lead.
  • A few free throws would put the Pacers head 43-28 early in the second half. Brevard would rally to close the gap to 46-40 before a layup and 3-pointer from Parton would put the Pacers ahead 53-42. Jalen Owens would drive in to increase the Pacer lead to 58-46 with a little over ten minutes remaining.
  • A shot from behind the arc from Tyler Parton and a layup from Bryant would give the Pacers a 69-54 advantage. Pettiford and Bryant would continue to lead the Pacers as their layups would bring the score to 77-65. Free throws from William Jenkins and Tim Aydlett would help secure an 80-67 win for the Pacers.
