Women's Basketball Picks Up Conference Win On Road Against Mary Baldwin

STAUNTON, VA -- William Peace University women's basketball picked up their first conference win of the season with a 64-53 win on the road against Mary Baldwin University.

THE BASICS
  • Final score: William Peace 64, Mary Baldwin 53
  • Records: William Peace (2-9, 1-4), Mary Baldwin (1-12, 1-5)
  • Location: Staunton, VA
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pacers would get out to a strong start as Mary Baldwin got in early foul trouble, allowing the Pacers to go up 8-1 on a few free throws from Elisha Aull, Ninevah Reddick, and Myla Barnes. The Fighting Squirrels would rally to cut the Pacer lead to 10-8, but a jumper from Pamela Mock and a layup from Aull would increase their lead to 17-10. A shot from behind the arc from Brene'a Daye and a jumper and free throw from Reddick would send the Pacers into the second quarter with a 23-10 lead.
  • A couple of jumpers from Mock and Reddick would get the Pacers started with a 32-15 lead in the 2nd. Aull and Kameesha Pascoe would each add jumpers for a 36-18 lead, but Mary Baldwin would then go on a big run for the remainder of the quarter to cut the lead to 36-27 heading into the half.
  • The Fighting Squirrels would rally to bring the score within one as they trailed 38-37 in the third. Reddick would add a jumper to put the Pacers ahead 40-37, but MBU would hold the Pacers after that point to take a 42-40 lead into the final quarter.
  • A jumper from Mock would tie it 44-44 early in the 4th, while a 3-pointer from Daye would put the Pacers back on top with a score of 47-46. Pascoe would add two jumpers, with Mock adding one, to give the Pacers a 53-48 advantage. Daye would sink another 3-pointer to increase the lead to 56-48, while Mock, Aull, and Reddick would be strong from the foul line in the final minutes to help secure the 64-53 win over the Fighting Squirrels.

  • Codie Heilig notched 19 points and 8 rebounds for MBU.
