Men's Basketball Opens Conference Play With 2OT Win Over Methodist

RALEIGH, NC-- William Peace University men's basketball opener conference play with an 81-78 2OT win over Methodist University.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pacers would get out to a strong 18-5 lead early in the first half with a few 3-pointers from Michael Dulin and a layup from Shawn Jones. Layups from Timothy Pettiford and Beau Bryant would increase the lead to 25-11. The Monarchs would battle late in the half to cut the Pacer lead to 28-23, but a layup from Donolique Tyrell, a few free throws from Dulin, and a 3-pointer from Beau Bryant would put the Pacers ahead 37-25 before a layup from Pettiford would send them into halftime with a lead of 39-27.
  • A few free throws, a layup, and a shot from behind the arc from Bryant early in the 2nd half would put the Pacers up 51-39. The Monarchs would chip away at the Pacer lead to bring the score to 51-48, though a 3-pointer from Tyler Parton and layups from Bryant would put the score at 58-48. The Monarchs would get several good stops to battle back as they trailed 65-61, before a few steals would allow them to tie it 65-65 late and send the game into overtime.
  • A 3-pointer from Dulin would give the Pacers a 70-67 lead in the first overtime, while a few free throws from Dulin would put the Pacers ahead 72-69, but a 3-pointer from Clayton Cole would tie it 72-72 and send it into a second overtime. A layup from Parton and a 3-pointer from Bryant would put the score at 77-72, with a final layup from Parton securing the 81-78 win for the Pacers.
