Volleyball Named Cougar Classic Champions As They Go 4-0 To Start The Season

DANVILLE, VA -- William Peace University volleyball completed the Averett Cougar Classic with an undefeated 4-0 record as they were named the Cougar Classic Champs after defeating Piedmont 3-0 and Averett 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE - PIEDMONT

Set One (25-10)
The Pacers would dominate the first set, with an early run giving them a 6-1 lead on kills from Kelsey Bierbauer and Georgia Grace Anderson. A 5-point run with three aces and a kill from Shelby Cooper would put them up 13-3, while kills from Landis Limon and Hannah Collier would bring the score to 19-5. Final kills from Bierbauer and Cooper would give them a 25-10 win in the first set.

Set Two (25-23)
Set two would be a back-and-forth contest, with Piedmont taking the initial 8-6 lead. A kill from Hannah Collier would tie the set 11-11, but Piedmont would go on a 4-point run to lead 20-16. The Pacers would rally with kills from AJ Townsend and Hannah Collier to tie it 20-20, with final kills from Ciara O'Conney and Collier giving them the 25-23 win and a 2-0 lead in the match.

Set Three (25-18)
A service ace from Logan Moore would put the Pacers up 5-3 in the first set, though the Lions would rally for a 7-5 lead. A huge 9-point run with kills from Hannah Collier and Georgia Grace Anderson and a few aces from Hannah Ward would put the Pacers up 17-11. Kelsey Bierbauer and Hannah Collier would put up the final kills for a 25-18 set win and a 3-0 sweep over the Lions.

GAME TWO - AVERETT UNIVERSITY
Set One (24-26)
The Cougars would take an early 9-3 lead over the Pacers, building on an early lead to take a 14-7 advantage. The Pacers would battle back to trail 18-14 with a kill from Landis Limon and an ace from Shelby Cooper. A strong 5-point run with kills from Limon and Hannah Collier would put the Pacers within one as they trailed 21-20. A kill from Shelby Cooper would tie the game 24-24, but the Cougars would grab the last two points to win 26-24.

Set Two (26-24)
A strong start with a kill from Kelsey Bierbauer and an ace from Hannah Collier would put the Pacers up 5-1. Kills from Landis Limon and Shelby Cooper would increase the Pacer lead to 10-3, with Cooper, Collier, and Georgia Grace Anderson adding a few more kills to put the Pacers up 17-10. The Cougars would battle back to tie it 18-18 and would take a brief lead before the Pacers would tie it 23-23. Kills from Collier and Cooper would give the Pacers a 26-24 win to tie the game 1-1.

Set Three (25-18)
The Pacers would take a big 10-2 lead with kills from Georgia Grace Anderson and Shelby Cooper. A few more kills from Collier and a service ace from Hannah Ward would put the Pacers up 21-8. The Cougars would battle hard to come back to trail 24-18, but a final kill from Kelsey Bierbauer would win the set 25-18 and take a 2-1 lead.

Set Four(25-11)
The Pacers would dominate the final set, taking a 14-6 lead on kills from Shelby Cooper and Kelsey Bierbauer. Kills from Georgia Grace Anderson and Hannah Collier would give WPU a big 21-10 lead, while final kills from Bierbauer and Cooper would give the Pacers a 25-11 set win and a 3-1 match win.
