Softball Wins Big To Sweep Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- William Peace University softball swept Salem College 2-0, winning game one 5-3 and game two 11-1. The Pacers now improve to 16-7 overall and 4-2 in the conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One

At the top of the first, Megan McAnany would get the Pacers going with a single to bring home Dara Orr and put WPU up 1-0. Lauren Conway would increase the Pacers lead to 2-0 after scoring on an error. The Spirits would tie the game 2-2 in the bottom of the 1st with a homerun from B. Coleman. At the top of the second, Dara Orr would send Lydia Hunt over home plate to put the Pacers back up 3-2. At the top of the 4th, Lydia Hunt would hit a homerun to bring the score to 4-2. The Spirits would cut the Pacer lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the 5th. The Pacers would add another run at the top of 7th on an error to help secure a 5-3 victory.

Game Two
Lauren Conway would put the Pacers up 1-0 early at the top of the first with a sacrifice fly to score Dara Orr. At the top of the second, a double from Megan McAnany would bring home Preston Hawkins to put WPU up 2-0. Dara Orr would bring in Anna Suggs and McAnany for a 4-0 lead, while a sacrifice fly from Candice Smith would score Orr to put the Pacers up 5-0. A double from Adanya Day would score Lauren Conway, and Day would score on an error to give the Pacers a 6-0 lead.

At the top of the 4th, Candice Smith would add a homerun to bring in Lauren Conway and put the Pacers up 9-0. At the top of the 5th, Kayleigh Griffith-Teemer would single to bring home Lydia Hunt and give the Pacers a 10-0 advantage before scoring on an error for an 11-0 lead. The Spirits would add a single run in the bottom of the 5th, but the Pacers would shut them down to take an 11-1 win.

PACER TOP PERFORMERS FOR THE FOES
  • B. Coleman went 1 for 2 in game one with 1 RBI.
