Baseball Defeats Monarchs In High-Scoring Contest

FAYETTEVILLE, NC -- William Peace University baseball defeated Methodist University in game two of their series by a score of 16-14. The Pacers now move to 11-8 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Pacers would take an early lead at the top of the 1st, as a bunt from Hunter Ward would score Logan Barbour for a 1-0 lead. At the top of the 2nd, a single from Cameron Butler would score Patrick Rogan to put the Pacers up 2-0, while Logan Barbour would drive in Butler for a 3-0 score. The Monarchs would respond in the bottom of the inning to tie it up 3-3 on a triple, before taking a 6-3 lead on a few fielding errors.

At the top of the third, Patrick Rogan's double would bring in Jake Dacunto and Brett Kemp to cut the score to 6-5. An error would bring home Patrick Rogan for a tie 6-6 score, while Sean Roseborough's single would score Cameron Butler to give the Pacers a 7-6 lead. The Monarchs would take advantage of a few errors and a single in the bottom of the inning to take back a 10-7 lead.

At the top of the 4th, Patrick Rogan would again hit a double to bring in Jake Dacunto and Brett Kemp to bring the score to 10-9. A double from Sean Roseborough would put the Pacers up 11-10. The Monarchs would tie it 11-11 in the bottom of the 5th. A sacrifice fly from Kevin Gonzalez, a single from Logan Barbour, and a walked in run at the top of the 6th would give the Pacers a 14-11 lead.

The Monarchs would put up a strong 6th inning to tie the game 14-14. At the top of the 9th, a single from Nick Tyler would score Logan Barbour to put the Pacers up 15-14. Cameron Butler would drive in Cole Thompson at the top of the 9th to bring the score to 16-14, with the Pacers holding the Monarchs in the bottom of the 9th to come away with the win.
