Rally Falls Just Short As Baseball Falls In Close Battle To #2 SUNY Cortland

CARY, NC -- William Peace University baseball fell just short against #2 SUNY Cortland by a score of 9-7. The Pacers would trail 7-0 early, but would rally back within two in a close battle with the Red Dragons.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Red Dragons would get out to a strong start at the top of the first. A triple from N. Chemotti would get them on the board 1-0, while a single from D. Coleman would bring home two runs for a 3-0 lead. A sac fly would cap off the first to put the Red Dragons up 4-0. At the top of the second, they would add two more runs to lead 6-0 on a double from N. Chemotti and a fielding error, while at the top of the third a single from M. Krafft would put the Red Dragons up 7-0.

A sacrifice fly would add another run for SUNY Cortland to lead 8-0 at the top of the 5th. In the bottom of the inning, a double from Nick Tyler would score Logan Barbour and Kevin Gonzalez to get the Pacers on the board as they cut the score to 8-2. The Red Dragons would respond at the top of the 6th with another sac fly to bring the score to 9-2.

The Pacers would begin a rally in the bottom of the seventh, with a double down the left field line from Hunter Ward bringing in Logan Barbour and Kevin Gonzalez to put the score at 9-4. A single from Brett Kemp would bring home Ward for a score of 9-5. In the bottom of the 8th, Kevin Gonzalez would hit a homerun over right field, driving in Shy Thompson to cut the SUNY Cortland lead to 9-7. Despite a good battle from the Pacers, they were unable to complete the comeback and would fall 9-7.

NEXT GAME
The Pacers open up USA South Conference play on March 18th against Methodist University in the first game of a 3-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 3PM.
