Women's Basketball Battles In Loss To Cougars

RALEIGH, NC -- William Peace University women's basketball fell to Averett University by a score of 77-62. The Pacers battled hard in the third quarter to tie up the game and take a lead, but the Cougars would outlast the Pacers to take the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the first quarter, the Cougars would get out to an early 8-1 lead. A few free throws from Joslyn Ayers would cut the lead to 12-5. Layups from Stomie Brown and Cierra Baker would cut the Cougars' lead to 16-11, but Averett would take a 20-11 lead into the 2nd quarter.
  • The Cougars would continue to push in the 2nd quarter, but the Pacers would battle as a 3-pointer from Cierra Baker cut Averett's lead to 27-18. A layup from Shelby Wolfe would cut the Cougars' lead to 32-23. The Cougars would take advantage of a few free throws to lead 40-28. A few final free throws would cut the Cougars' lead down to 40-32 heading into halftime.
  • The Pacers would battle back in the third quarter, with a jumper from Stephanie Chandler tying the game 42-42. A layup from Shelby Wolfe would put the Pacers up 46-44, but a small run from the Cougars would put them back ahead 52-47 heading into the final quarter.
  • Layups from Ninevah Reddick and Pamela Mock would put the Pacers back within one as they trailed by 57-56. The Cougars would put up a few good stops to lead 69-58. The Pacers were unable to recover despite great effort, and would fall 77-62.
