Men's Basketball Takes Down Brevard With Second Half Surge

Raleigh, NC -- William Peace University men's basketball defeated Brevard College in a non conference matchup 66-60. The Pacers now move to 5-5 overall.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Smith Gupton would tie the game early 5-5 with a layup as the game started out as a back-and-forth contest. Brevard would pull ahead with a 19-9 lead before a few free throws from Donolly Tyrell Jr. would bring the score to 19-11. A 3-pointer by Cole Atwood, a layup by Rashod Rouse, and a 3-pointer from Michael Dulin would put the Pacers up 21-19 as they got a few good stops. The Tornados would again pull ahead with a few layups by Alex Wesig, but the Pacers would stay within one with a jumper by Beau Bryant, sending the game into halftime with a score of 30-29 in favor of Brevard.
  • The Pacers would continue to battle in the 2nd half, with a free throw from Smith Gupton keeping them within one as they trailed 37-36. Donolly Tyrell Jr. Would tie the game 39-39 with a shot from behind the arc, while Cole Atwood's 3-pointer would bring the score to 42-21. Smith Gupton would put up 3 to put the Pacers ahead 49-45, with Gupton adding a layup and another 3-pointer to put the Pacers up 58-52. The Pacers would take advantage of several final shots from the foul line to defeat Brevard 66-60.

  • Alex Wesig led the Tornados with 17 points.
  • Quincy Carter tallied 16 points for Brevard.
