Pacers Fall In Close Contest To Cougars

RALEIGH, NC -- William Peace University women's basketball fell to Averett University 68-61. The Pacers now move to 3-9 overall and 2-4 in the conference.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pacers would take a 5-2 lead early in the first quarter on a jumper from Stephanie Chandler. A layup from Arianna Hamilton would put the Pacers ahead 10-2, while a jumper by Pamela Mock would bring the score to 17-8. The Cougars would battle back at the end of the quarter as the Pacers led 20-15 heading into the 2nd.
  • The Cougars would take over the 2nd quarter, quickly tying the game 22-22 before going on a run to lead 28-22. A jumper from Stormie Brown would put the Pacers back within one as they trailed 28-27, but the Cougars would head into halftime with a 33-28 lead.
  • The third quarter would prove to be a good battle between the teams, as free throws from Shelby Cooper, Cierra Baker, and Stormie Brown would regain a Pacer lead of 36-33. Stormie Brown would tie the game 43-43 with a drive in the paint, but a final layup by the Cougars would put them back within one as they trailed 48-47 heading into the final quarter.
  • A few good early stops by Averett would put them up 55-50 in the final quarter. A layup by Stormie Brown and a jumper from Arianna Hamilton would keep the Pacers close as they trailed 62-58, but the Cougars would take advantage of their final shots from the foul line to secure a 68-61 win.
