Volleyball Falls To Virginia Wesleyan

RALEIGH, NC -- William Peace University volleyball fell to a tough Virginia Wesleyan University squad 3-0. The Pacers put up great battles in all three sets, but were just edged out by the Marlins, who are currently undefeated in the ODAC.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set One (26-28)
In set one, the Marlins would take an early 3-1 lead before a service ace from Emerson Scollo could tie the set 4-4. A kill from Hannah Collier and a service ace from Mackenzie Russell would put the Pacers in the lead 9-8. The set would continue to go back-and-forth as the Marlins would even the score 14-14. The Marlins would go on a 3-point run to lead 22-20. The Pacers would take a late 26-25 lead with a block from Hannah Collier and Landis Limon, but VWU would grab the last three points to win the set 28-26.

Set Two (20-25)
The Marlins would start strong in set two to lead 6-1. The Pacers would battle back to come within 4 as they trailed 11-7, before a kill by Hannah Collier could bring them within two as they trailed 15-13. Kills from Georgia Grace Anderson and Hannah Collier would bring the score to 20-18, but the Marlins would control the end of the set to win 25-20 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Set Three (17-25)
In the final set, VWU would take an early 3-0 lead. A service ace from Shelby Cooper would bring the score to 6-5, but a 4-point run by the Marlins would increase their lead to 10-5. The Pacers would go on their own 4-point run as they trailed 14-12, but the Marlins would retaliate with a 6-point run to lead 21-13. The Pacers would continue to battle, but VWU would close out the set 25-17 to win the match 3-0.

  • Abigail Mahoney led the Marlins with 13 kills.
  • Isabelle Gaudent put up 24 digs for VWU.
