Volleyball Sweeps Averett In Thrilling Contest

RALEIGH, NC -- William Peace University volleyball swept Averett University 3-0 to improve to 4-1 in the conference. The Pacers put up a fantastic battle against the Cougars, who are the defending USA South East Division Champions. The Pacers will continue with conference play on Tuesday, October 5th with a match-up against Meredith College at 7PM.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set One (25-21)
The Cougars would take an early 3-1 lead in the first set, but a block from Landis Limon would tie it 3-3. A 4-point run by the Pacers with killsl from Shelby Cooper and Kelsey Bierbauer would give the Pacers an 8-4 lead. Kills from Hannah Collier and Landis Limon would increase the Pacer lead to 16-8. The Cougars would notch 5 in a row as they trailed 17-15, but the Pacers would continue to roll to secure the set 25-21.

Set Two (27-25)
In set two, the Cougars would again take an early 4-1 lead, but a kill by Shelby Cooper would even things up 5-5. The set would go back-and-forth, with a kill by Hannah Collier tying it 10-10. The Cougars would take a 15-12 lead before going on a 4-point run to lead 21-16. A 5-point run by the Pacers would regain their lead by a score of 24-22. The Cougars would tie the set 24-24 before taking a brief 25-24 lead, but the Pacers would pick up the last three to win 27-25 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Set Three (25-22)
Three consecutive kills by Shelby Cooper would give the Pacers an early 5-2 lead. The set would be a back-and-forth contest, with a kill from Landis Limon tying it 9-9. A block from Kelsey Bierauer and Georgia Grace Anderson would give the Pacers a 13-11 lead. The Cougars would gain a 4-point run to bring the score to 19-18 still in favor of the Pacers. The Cougars would tie it 22-22, but a final service ace from Emerson Scollo would seal the set 25-22 and the game 3-0.

PACER TOP PERFORMERS FOR THE FOES
  • Morgan Barnes led the Cougars with 12 kills.
  • Erin Gray tallied 17 digs for Averett.
STATS OF THE GAME
  • The Pacers put up 14 blocks in comparison to Averett's 5.
NEXT GAME
The Pacers are set to head to Meredith College on October 5th. The game is set to begin at 7PM.
