Ponce Scores Twice As Pacers Defeat Wildcats 4-1

CARY, NC -- William Peace University men's soccer defeated Johnson and Wales University 4-1. The Pacers now improve to 4-0 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Wildcats would get on the board early, as Brandon Greene would take advantage of a quick opportunity to put JWU up 1-0 at 1:30. Ivan Ponce would put several shots up for the Pacers while Pacer goalkeeper Jacob Smith would make a few key saves to keep the Wildcats from adding to their lead. Ponce would tie the game 1-1 after getting past the JWU goalkeeper. Reid Taylor would add to the Pacer lead at 32:16 after a great cross from Donnie Leahy to bring the score to 2-1. The Pacers would continue to challenge the Wildcats, and the game would go into halftime with a 2-1 Pacer lead.

Ivan Ponce would get his second of the night just a minute into the second half to give the Pacers a 3-1 advantage. The game would become a physical battle, and Jorge Lemus would increase the Pacer lead to 4-1 at 61:37, assisted by Archie Filliter. The Pacers would control possession for the rest of the half, challenging JWU goalkeeper Tanner Newport, who would make some big saves to keep WPU from scoring again and ending the game 4-1 in favor of the Pacers.

  • Brandon Greene would score the lone goal for the Wildcats.
