Volleyball Splits Southern Virginia University Tournament

BUENA VISTA, NC -- William Peace University volleyball split the Southern Virginia University Tournament 1-1. The Pacers fell to the Knights 3-0, but would come back to sweep Mary Baldwin University 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME ONE - SOUTHERN VIRGINIA
Set One (15-25)
The Knights would get out to a strong start, taking a 4-1 lead over the Pacers. A kill by Hannah Collier would cut down the lead to 6-4, but the Knights would continue to maintain control of the set. A 7-point run would give them a 19-9 advantage, and despite a good battle, the Pacers would be unable to recover and would fall 25-15.

Set Two (16-25)
Kills by Hannah Collier and Shelby Cooper would give the Pacers an early 4-2, but the Knights would go on a quick run to lead 5-4. A block from Shelby Cooper and Landis Limon would regain the Pacer lead 10-9, but the Knights would battle back to lead 14-11. A kill by Georgia Grace Anderson would cut down the lead 17-15, but the Knights would control the rest of the set to win 25-16 and take a 2-0 lead in the game.

Set Three (22-25)
In the final set, the Pacers would again lead early, taking advantage of a few attack errors and a service ace by Emerson Scollo to lead 10-4. However, the Knights would go on a 6-point run to tie it 10-10. The Pacers would then grab the next 6 to regain a 16-10 lead, but SVU would grab 8 in a row to bring the score to 19-17. The Pacers would continue to battle, but SVU would hold on to win set three 25-22 and the game 3-0.

GAME TWO - MARY BALDWIN
Set One (25-11)
The Pacers would control set one early, grabbing a 6-point run to lead 10-4, with four kills coming from Landis Limon. Hannah Collier and Georgia Grace Anderson would help the Pacers on another run to bring the score to 16-5, with kills from Shelby Cooper and Landis Limon bringing the score to 22-10. Hannah Collier would notch the final two kills for a 25-11 win in the set.

Set Two (25-11)
The Pacers would again take early control, going on two 4-point runs to lead 9-2. A kill by Landis Limon from Mackenzie Russell would bring the score to 13-5, with a 5-point run led by Keslee Hylton and Hannah Collier giving WPU a dominant 21-7 lead. Keslee Hylton would put up the final kill to secure the 25-11 win and a 2-0 lead in the match.

Set Three (25-14)
In the final set, the Pacers would grab a 3-0 lead with a kill from Keslee Hylton and a service ace by Mackenzie Russell. Mary Baldwin would tie it up 6-6, but a kill by Chassie Jacops would put the Pacers back up 10-7. A 5-point run led by Chassie Jacops, Jordan Juanes, and Logan Moore would bring the score to 16-9. A dominant 7-point run would give the Pacers a 23-12 edge, and kills from Landis Limon and Jayla Durham would seal the set 25-14 and the game 3-0.

PACER TOP PERFORMERS FOR THE FOES
  • Courtney Pinkston tallied 14 kills for the Knights in game one.
  • Elle Warnick notched 33 assists in game one for SVU.
  • Soleil Rios Rolon notched 13 digs in game two for Mary Baldwin.
STATS OF THE GAME
  • SVU tallied 10 blocks in comparison to WPU's 3 in game one.
NEXT GAME
The Pacers return home to host Pfeiffer University on September 28th. The game is scheduled for 6PM.
