Pacers Open Conference Play With Win Over NCWC

RALEIGH, NC -- William Peace University Volleyball opened up conference play against the road against N.C. Wesleyan College, taking a 3-1 victory. The Pacers improve to 1-0 in the conference and 6-7 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED

SET ONE (25-14)
The Battling Bishops would take an early 5-2 lead in set one. Kills by Hannah Collier and Kelsey Bierbauer would tie the set 7-7 before a 6-point would put the Pacers ahead 16-9. Kills by Shelby Cooper and Kelsey Bierbauer and a service ace from Emerson Scollo would give the Pacers a 21-13 advantage. The Pacers would grab the last four points of the set to win 25-14.

SET TWO (25-18)
N.C. Wesleyan would again take an early lead in set two, just keep the Pacers out of striking distance, before a kill by Hannah Collier would tie it 13-13. A kill from Georgia Grace Anderson and a service ace from Kelsey Bierbauer would bring the score to 15-13, before a dominant 7-point run would give the Pacers a 22-14 edge. Despite a battle from NCWC, the Pacers would seal the set 25-18 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

SET THREE (25-27)
A kill by Landis Limon would tie the third seat early 2-2, before a run with kills from Shelby Cooper, Kelsey Bierbauer, and Georgia Grace Anderson, all assisted by Mackenzie Russel, would give the Pacers an 11-7 lead. The Battling Bishops would go on a strong 7-point run to take a 14-11 lead. The remainder of the set would be a back-and-forth battle, with a kill from Georgia Grace Anderson tying it 23-23. The Battling Bishops would just take control near the end to take a 27-25 win in the set, bringing the score in the match to 2-1.

SET FOUR (25-14)
In the final set, the Pacers would take an early 5-2 lead with kills from Shelby Cooper and Hannah Collier. Cooper, Collier, and Georgia Grace Anderson would continue to put up big kills to give the Pacers a 13-5 advantage. The Pacers would grab a 4-point run to take a dominant 21-10 lead, with final kills by Georgia Grace Anderson and Hannah Collier helping to secure the 25-14 win in the set and 3-1 win in the game.

  • Sloan Martin notched 36 assists.
  • Bijou Patel tallied 10 kills.
NEXT GAME
The Pacers will continue with USA South Conference play as they head to Southern Virginia University on Friday, September 25th to take on Mary Baldwin University and Southern Virginia University. The games are set for 12PM (SVU) and 4PM (MBU).
