Pacers Fall In Five After Tough Battle With Emory & Henry

RALEIGH, NC -- William Peace University volleyball fell 3-2 against Emory & Henry College after a surge from the Wasps. The Pacers would win the first two sets, but the Wasps would battle hard to comeback and win the last three over the Pacers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Set One (25-18)
The Pacers would get early momentum in set one, leading 6-5 on a kill by Landis Limon. The Wasps would take a brief 13-10 lead, but a kill by Limon would even it up 13-13 while an ace and a kill from Shelby Cooper would give WPU a 15-13 advantage. The Pacers would go on a 5-point run to lead 22-15, with a kill by Georgia Grace Anderson and an attack error securing the 25-18 win for the Pacers.

Set Two (25-14)
A kill by Shelby Cooper early in set two would give the Pacers a 4-3 edge. The set would go back-and-forth for a bit, with Landis Limon's kill tying the set 7-7. The Wasps would tie the game 13-13 before the Pacers would go on an impressive 11-point run, with kills by Landis Limon, Alyssa Poteat, and Shelby Cooper bringing the score to 24-13. A service error would complete the set 25-14 for the Pacers to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Set Three (12-25)
The Wasps would battle back in set three, taking a commanding 7-1 lead early with kills by Samantha Worthy and Carley Williams. A service ace from Logan Moore would bring the Pacers closer as they trailed 9-5, but the Wasps would continue to hold the advantage. A 10-point run would bring the Wasps a 24-11 lead, with a kill by Carley Williams giving them a 25-12 win over the Pacers as they trailed 2-1 in the game.

Set Four (15-25)
Set four would be tied 4-4 early, but the Wasps would apply some pressure to take an 8-4 lead. A kill by Georgia Grace Anderson would keep the Pacers within 4 as they trailed 11-7, but the Wasps would again take control to lead 19-12. The Pacers were unable to recover, and would fall 25-15 in set four as the Wasps tied the match 2-2.

Set Five (14-16)
In the final set, the Wasps would take an early 3-1 lead with a few service aces from Savanah Keesee. Kills by Shelby Cooper and Kelsey Bierbauer would put the Pacers ahead 5-3, but the Wasps would again gain some momentum to lead 9-6. A block by Landis Limon and Shelby Cooper would tie the set 9-9, with a kill by Kelsey Bierbauer to give the Pacers a 12-11 lead. However, the Wasps would dig in to tie the set 14-14 before completing their comeback to win 16-14 and take the game 3-2 over WPU.

PACER TOP PERFORMERS FOR THE FOES
  • Carley Williams tallied 15 kills for the Wasps.
  • Marissa Snapp notched 39 assists, while Sarah Moore added 15 kills.
